Kapal 2.3 brings Siri & Shortcuts, Camera Suggestions, a new vertical Timeline, and your own camera names.
SIRI & SHORTCUTS — KAPAL+
Open a camera, a camera group, Activity, or the latest detection from Siri, the Shortcuts app, a Home Screen shortcut, or the Action button. Filter the latest detection by camera and object type.
CAMERA SUGGESTIONS (BETA) — KAPAL+
Kapal checks a week of your Frigate server’s records for noisy alerts, motion footage with nothing in it, and setup issues. Apply suggested fixes with Undo and see before-and-after results. Applying changes requires a Frigate administrator account.
A NEW VERTICAL TIMELINE — KAPAL+
On iPhone, the Timeline is now vertical, rebuilt to use the screen better so your events and their previews are easier to see. Turn on Preview while scrubbing to see footage as you move through time. On iPad, pull the Timeline panel up to give your busiest cameras their own lanes.
CAMERA NAMES
Kapal now uses the friendly names set in Frigate. Long-press a camera to give it your own name, and it appears in widgets and on Apple Watch too.
PANORAMIC & LARGE STREAMS
Optional per-camera support for dual-lens panoramas and very large streams, with a lighter fallback stream. Turn it on in Manage Cameras.
FIXES AND POLISH
• Added a Full Screen button to iPhone live view that works with Portrait Orientation Lock on.
• Event Details now offers Snapshot and Clip.
• Fixed the playback speed menu showing 2x twice, and kept your chosen speed after pausing and in Picture in Picture.
• “Check two-way audio” now appears only when a check fails.
• A tap brings back live controls on cameras that play through VLC.
• Camera lists sort by the names you see.
• Timeline clips from busy, high-resolution cameras load more reliably and no longer play sped up.
• The Motion list shows quieter motion it used to miss, and its cards play the recording instead of saying none was kept.
• Camera Suggestions can check one camera or all of them.
• Find the 2.3 highlights again in System → Support → What’s New.
• The GenAI card now says when your AI provider isn’t responding.
• Logs is out of beta.
Panoramic and large stream playback depends on your device, camera encoding, and network.
